From ‘fear psychosis’ to endearing ‘love’
Huckhim’s communal dynamite
By Sameen Jan
One Huckhim has been quoted in The Island (20th Dec 09) as saying that a “new dynamism has entered politics recently and cleansed the opposition parties of communalism and nationalists” with the entry of Gen Fonseka to politics. He goes on to say that “it is the President himself who has given refuge to those scoundrels who call themselves patriots. But they are in fact communalists”.
Huckhim ‘disturbed by ‘criminal’ remarks -2008
Was it the same Huckhim who in 2008 said Lt Gen Fonseka has ‘disturbed’ him referring to an alleged remark of the latter about SL belonging to the Sinhalese? Huckhim then playing the white man, keeping step with the NGO boys, called it an ‘attack’ on the minorities.
Apparently it was “uncalled for” and the non Sinhalese he was sure would be ‘insulted’ and it would “create a fear psychosis” among the minorities. This was at the height of the LTTE terror but Huckhim had good reason not to worry about that lot. It didn’t worry him that over nearly 30 years, over 100,000 had died because of it. But that Huckhim being a lawyer referred to Lt Gen Fonseka’s remarks as a ‘crime’. It now appears that Huckhim wants readers to seriously believe that his “psychosis” has gravitated from “fear” to endearing love. To prove himself he is genuflecting to the very ‘fearsome’ attacker he invented, effectively pardoning him of the very charges he made against Fonseka of committing ‘crime’ and ‘insulting’ the minorities. That is the true sum of Huckhim’s fickle conscience.
Oluvil hospital-for whom only in 2004?
People may recall remarks at the foundation laying ceremony for a government hospital at Oluvil around 2004. When asked what was the need to have a hospital there when there were 2 General Hospitals close by at Ampara and Batticaloa, who was it with unbridled communal bias countered by saying “why, can’t the Muslims have a hospital for themselves”? So what’s all this about “attacks” “insults” “uncalled for” remarks about the “minorities” to end up asking whether they do not “deserve equal treatment”. Now what was the “treatment” that Oluvil hospital was going to provide exclusively for one community? Can he name even one state hospital that is exclusively for any one community? So who is the communalist and by Huckhim’s own reckoning who is then a “scoundrel” wherever, however and with whom he seeks “refuge”.
“Attacks bordering on racism” - 2008
Lt Gen Fonseka had in 2008 allegedly said that SL belongs to the Sinhalese. ‘Not done’ said Huckhim at that time. He was worried then that Lt Gen Fonseka’s remarks affected “communal harmony” as they were “attacks bordering on racism”. He was then immensely concerned that “Muslims and Tamils holding high positions “even” in the armed forces and the police whose ‘blood’ was “spilt to gain independence” for SL had been sidelined by Fonseka’s remarks. Stunningly he virtually calls Fonseka a Messiah now. He believes Fonseka will now lead Huckhim and his followers to an earthly SL paradise where “communalists and nationalists”, the very label he stuck on Fonseka a year ago are “cleansed”. Huckhim is now reduced to providing sanitary services to clean up the very filthy mess he made by casting communal and racist aspersions at Fonseka.
U turn on reckless political issues and bridges - 2009
Huckhim in 2008 wished that Lt Gen Fonseka would leave the politicians (like himself?) to comment on “political issues”. He added that Fonseka “went about breaking bridges built between communities after a lot of hard work” (had been done). Amazingly he now swears that Fonseka has in about a month “brought about a new dynamism in the political life of the country” and without a trace of shame hypocritically pontificates that the same Fonseka is the best person fit to rebuild the ‘bridges’ of communal amity. May be the cap Huckhim produced for ‘scoundrels’ ‘who are in fact communalists’ fits some people he is more familiar with. That would be his ‘refuge’ whether he gives up his self serving sanitary services or not.
PS: Who was it that promoted an aspiring NGO who wanted Lt Gen Fonseka to ‘apologise’ in 2008? Who is apologizing now? Ask Huckhim. |
