Opposition ahead, but could appearances deceive?
These are the results of the last presidential election held in 2005: Mahinda Rajapaksa 4,887,152 or 50.29 per cent of the vote, Ranil Wickremesinghe 4,706,366 or 48.43 percent of the vote.
The margin is extremely thin —- and as can be seen, does not even add up to a basic two percentage points.
If the UNP backed common candidate loses 5 per cent of that vote that was cast in 2005, it appears mathematically that he may still win the election if the sizeable JVP and now the Tamil party vote blocks are counted in his column. More >>

Sanga hails Mahela’s return

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara hailed teammate Mahela Jayawardene’s return to form, saying it augurs well for his team. “Both our openers did a great job. Mahela, especially, was fantastic,” Sangakkara said after the 215-run stand between openers Upul Tharanga (118 not out) and Jayawardene (108) fashioned the team’s facile nine-wicket win over Bangladesh on Friday in the ongoing tri-series. Jayawardene was uncharacteristically subdued on the recent tour of India and the Lankan was flown to Bangladesh after Sri Lanka lost a number of frontline players to injury. More >>

Scanner bumps kiri pani 2.5 x 103 culture

Can you imagine, for a moment, all the extra pressure that the whole body imaging airport scanners will put on (figure conscious) women, and men, in general? I can already see quickie diets claiming to get you through airport check in and check out looking thin and toned becoming all the rage. Not to mention new life injected into shapewear - now for the career woman always on the go, to keep those extra flab tucked in beautifully. And what about when more detailed imaging technology becomes feasible? Will we feel compelled to shave our legs and/or chest hair before catching our flight? More >>

WHEN news emerged of the life-story of the Nigerian who tried to blow up a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day, there were cries of bewilderment in some quarters, groans of dismay in others, and shouts of “I told you so” from a small army of Cassandras.

Theory Of Evolution
Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is the widely held notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor. Darwin’s general theory presumes the development of life from non-life and stresses a purely naturalistic (undirected) “descent with modification”. That is, complex creatures evolve from more simplistic ancestors naturally overtime. In a nutshell, as random genetic mutations occur within an organism’s genetic code, the beneficial mutations are preserved because they aid survival — a process known as “natural selection.” These beneficial mutations are passed on to the next generation..
