Now, UPFA supporter killed

A United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) supporter was shot dead yesterday afternoon in Madurankuliya. Three others were injured in the attack while they were heading for a scheduled UPFA rally to be held in Anamaduwa en masse.
“According to the information we have the deceased is a male and was looking for transport to go to the rally. The victim was among a large number of UPFA supporters and was shot as they were passing a UNP office. The police is conducting further investigations because it’s not very clear what has happened,” said Police Spokesman SSP I. M Karunaratne. “There was some unrest in the area on Friday as several UNP offices were attacked by an unknown group.”
Meanwhile the government supporters have burned down a house and a hotel owned by a UNP politician. On January 12th a 62 year old woman, Kusumawathi Kurupuarrachchi was killed when gunman who arrived on a motor bike fired at a bus transporting supporters of common opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka in Ranna, Tangalle in the Southern province. Another 10 people were injured in the attack. Nearly 600 instances of election law violations have been reported so far and many election monitors fear that things would be worse as the election day approaches.
