No de-merging North and East assures Fonseka

Common Opposition Candidate General Sarath Fonseka yesterday assured the Malwatte Mahanayake, Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala that he would not merge the Northern and Eastern provinces, a Fonseka aide said. Gen Fonseka paid a courtesy call on the Malwatte Mahanayake in Kandy, yesterday.
When Ven Thera queried about government instigated rumours that the Sarath Fonseka had agreed to a demand by the Tamil National Alliance to merge the North and East, the general assured that he would never take any steps that will be detrimental to the territorial integrity of the country, his aide said.
“The general replied that he would not merge the Northern and Eastern provinces, which he helped to liberate from the LTTE,” he said.
