Let Jaleel play, SLC tells ICC
In an email communiqué Sri Lanka Cricket says that it had requested the ICC to permit Sri Lanka youth spinner Rushan Jaleel to play in the ongoing U-19 World Cup in New Zealand as SLC selected each and every bowler including Jaleel after close scrutiny of their bowling actions.
Sri Lanka Under-19 offspinner Rushan Jaleel was reported for an illegal bowling action by Bruce Oxenford and Shahul Hameed, the on-field umpires during Sri Lanka’s U-19 World Cup warm-up match against Hong Kong at Hagley Park in Christchurch.
Clarifying the ICC media release issued on the above subject SLC says,
“……………All bowlers’ actions were screened/ examined under extreme scrutiny with the help of Software aided cameras used by the SLC Coaching Division. Upon completion of the observation all bowlers taking part in the ICC U19 WC 2010 were cleared of possessing any illegal bowling actions,” the communiqué states.
The SLC also says that the reporting of Jaleel’s actions came in as a shocking surprise for them as he represented the Sri Lankan U-19 team in tours to Australia and South Africa during the last few months apart from the U-19 international matches played at home.
“Upon completion of those encounters it is noteworthy to mention that no adverse report on his bowling action has been forwarded by any match official engaged in those tournaments from the respective countries,” it added.
