Police claim STF stumbles upon arms and ammunition

The Special Task Force (STF) has allegedly unearthed 64 hand grenades and two T 56 rifles near Bodi Rukkaramaya, Maligawatta last night. The cache of ammunition was allegeldy found at a location close to where the final rally of General Sarath Fonseka was held.
Police are investigating to ascertain who is responsible for these arms and grenades, Police sources said.
A Police sources said that the STF apparently did yoeman service by recovering these arms during the election period.
“A total of 889 incidents of election related violence have been reported to the police and 351 people have been arrested in connection with these acts. Over 100 people have been hospitalized and four have died. So we are deploying a large force to keep things under control,” Police Spokesman, SSP I. M Karunarathne said.
