Weather change since Election Day

By Elmo Leonard

For the next three or four days expect warmer nights and mornings, with downcast skies and occasional rains, the met man said.
This change into moist hot weather, since pre-election day is consequent to easterly winds blowing over the island, from the north Bay of Bengal, bringing in moisture.
The north eastern monsoonal winds have not completely taken over, Deputy Director of Meteorology S R Jayasekera said.
There are yet cold dry winds blowing over India entering from the north of the island.
The cold nights and mornings we experienced earlier was due to these cold dry winds. With such conditions in January, the skies are cloudless, the heated land radiated its warmth unobstructed upwards and the nights and mornings are left cool.
The new weather conditions could change into cooler dry weather in the next few days.
