Sri Lanka win cycling bronze

Sri Lanka won its first medal in the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) when the women’s cyclists finished third in the Individual time trial clocking an accumulated time of 47 minutes 07.08 seconds in an event dominated by the Indian cyclists.
India, who won event’s first gold medal, clocked a brilliant 44 minutes 22.15 seconds way ahead of the second placed Pakistanis who clocked 47 minutes 04.06 seconds. Sri Lanka women’s team comprised Lasanthi Krishna, Niluka Shamalee, WK Pushparanee and Niroshani Perera.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka men’s badminton team recorded a convincing 2-1 victory over Pakistan and will meet Nepal in the semi-finals to be played today. Sri Lankan stars Niluka Karunaratne and Dinuka Karunaratne won their respective individual games and then combined to win the doubles to take Sri Lanka to a comfortable 2-1 lead over the Pakistanis.
In the men’s football Sri Lanka recorded a 1-nil win over defending champions Pakistan and will meet India in the second match today. However their women’s counterparts suffered a humiliating 8-1 defeat in the hands of India on Friday. |
