Political appointees asked to tender resignations
By Kamani Hettiarachchi
The presidential secretariat issued orders last week asking all political appointees in government institutions to tender their resignations in order to fill vacancies before the next general election.
This decision was taken as a means of satisfying those who worked towards re-electing President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Meanwhile, it has been noted that some political appointees selected by the earlier regime had in one way or the other supported general Sarath Fonseka at the last presidential poll. As per orders from the top, chairmen and directors had resigned immediately after the re-election. Meanwhile, Anusha Pelpita, Director General of Government Information Department was appointed new Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission following the resignation of former DG of TRC Priyantha Kariyapperuma. New chairpersons and directors will be appointed to other institutions as well, before parliament is dissolved for the upcoming general election. |
