Jaffna hosts marathon after 30 years
Jaffna will see its first marathon in 30 years when the first leg of the Nestomalt Mini Marathon starts at the Duraiyappa Stadium on March 6.
The event organized jointly by Athletic Association of Sri Lanka and Nestle Lanka PLC will be held in six stages in six different venues in the country.
The marathon which is expected to attract about 5000 runners will get underway at 3.00 pm on Saturday and the competitors will undergo a medical checkup before the event.
The marathon will be held in two segments, an open event which will see all leading athletes across the island and an event of school children above the age of 15 in the area.
The winners of the open marathon will receive cash prizes in addition to trophies and medals.
