Sangakkara shines

Skipper Kumar Sangakkara hit an unbeaten 51 in 29 balls and Tharanga Paravithana scored a 35-ball 50 as Kandurata registered an easy eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka Cricket Combined XI in their Inter-Provincial T20 fixture at Palleke Stadium yesterday.
Having reduced Combined XI for 138 for nine following some excellent bowling performance, Kandurata reached the target with ease in their 15th over with skipper Sangakkara remaining unbeaten on 51 with Chinthaka Jayasinghe on 15.

Jayawardene hits half ton as Wayamba triumph

Mahela Jayawardene fired a 40-ball 59 with nine boundaries and a six as Wayamba registered a comfortable five-wicket win over Ruhuna in the Inter-provincial T20 fixture at Welagedara stadium yesterday.
Ruhuna taking the first lease of the wicket were bowled out for 127 just a ball short of their 20 overs thanks to some fine bowling performances from Chanaka Welegedara (2/16), Kaushal Lokuarachchi 2/18 and Thissara Perera (2/14).
In reply Wayamba led by former Sri Lanka player Jehan Mubarak lost five wickets on their way as they reached the target in the 19th over.

Vaas double helps Basnahira North

A fine double from Chaminda Vaas - a 13-ball 27 and 3 for 22 - ensured Basnahira North a smooth sailing against Basnahira South in their Inter -provincial 20 encounter played at Welagedara stadium yesterday.
National discard Vaas smashed 2 boudnaries and a six in his quick-fire innings to help them reach a commanding 163 after Sachithara Serasinhe (37) and Thilina Kandamby (44) set the platform for a big score and then joined hands with Nuwan Kulasekara (3/13) to record a 54-run win.
