Sarah Palin’s Legal Defence Fund Was Illegal, Ethics Panel Finds
An Alaska ethics panel has ruled that a legal defence fund set up for then-Gov. Sarah Palin was illegal.
The state Personnel Board said Thursday the Alaska Fund Trust inappropriately used the word “official” on its website to describe it, wrongly implying Palin’s endorsement as governor, The Associated Press reported.
However the board found that Palin acted in good faith and relied on a team of attorneys to make sure the fund was lawful, the AP said.
Palin’s attorney said the former GOP vice presidential nominee will return most of the $390,000 that the fund collected since it was set up in April 2009.
When she resigned as governor last summer, Palin cited the toll of a number of ethics probes as one of the reasons. She has said she racked up a half million dollars in legal fees.
A new legal defense fund has already been launched
