Sri Lanka defeat Bangladesh by 17 runs

Sports---Kusal-PhotoSri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 17 runs in the one-off Twenty20 international in Pallekele on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 198, Bangladesh gave a solid fightback but only managed to

score 181 runs in reply and losing 7 wickets in the process. 

This was the highest total by Bangladesh batting second in T20 internationals.
Mohammad Ashraful top-scored with 43 for the visitors while Thisara Perera (25-2) was the pick of the Lankan bowlers.
 
Earlier, the hosts made a brisk start after being inserted as Kusal Perera cracked a 44-ball 64 to help Sri Lanka post a challenging 198-5.
The opener struck four sixes and five fours in his quickfire knock before falling in the 12th over, caught by wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim off off-spinner Mohammad Mahmudullah.
 
Jeevan Mendis and Angelo Mathews then raised 66-runsfor the fifth wicket off just 5.5 overs to help their side set a stiff target.
 
Mendis clubbed three sixes, including two in an over from left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, and two fours in his 17-ball 37 while Mathews contributed an unbeaten 30 off 27 deliveries.
 
Sri Lanka plundered 32 off the last 13 balls, with Thisara Perera making a seven-ball 22 not out with two sixes and as many fours.
Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the Test series with 1-0 and the one-day series ended with 1-1.
