Protestors carrying torches walk down streets shouting slogans calling on the government to reduce the electricity tariffs is to be a part of their latest campaign against the government.

The JVP commenced the campaign with a protest in Maharagama in Colombo Monday and Tuesday in the Anuradhapura town. JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti said the party would continue with the agitation campaign until the electricity tariffs are reduced.

The party is planning to hold a massive protest on Wednesday (24) in Colombo Fort to create awareness among the public of the real impact of the tariff revision and the cause for such a revision.

MP Handunnetti says that it was the corruption and wastage of the government and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) that have resulted in the increase of tariffs.
