The main opposition UNP has taken measures to draft a new constitution for the country to address the current issues, according to the party sources. The party
has also decided to appoint a committee to draft the constitution. Its Colombo district MP and former Bar association President Wijedasa Rajapaksa is slated to be appointed as the Chairman of the committee.
UNP general secretary and MP Tissa Attanayake has said that the committee would meet for the first time on May 29 to start the drafting of the constitution. He said that all ethnic communities would be consulted and views of other parties would also be taken into account when drafting the new constitution.
